PORTLAND, Ore. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team arrived in Oregon on Wednesday evening and spent Thursday preparing for competition in the 2012 Cavalier Cup presented by Red Lions Hotel. The four-team tournament is being hosted by second-ranked Concordia (Ore.) at Tuominen Yard, which is a part of the Hiliken Stadium.
The field includes the Cavaliers, third-ranked Lindsey Wilson, the fourth-ranked Eagles and 12
th-ranked Hastings. Tournament play gets underway on Friday when ERAU takes on Lindsey Wilson at 1 p.m. (PST). Concordia will go up against Hastings at 7 p.m. (PST) in the NAIA Match of the Week. The tournament concludes on Sunday when the Eagles face Hastings at 1 p.m. (PST) and Concordia battles Lindsey Wilson at 7 p.m. (PST).
Embry-Riddle is 1-1 on the year following an 8-0 defeat of Southeastern and a 2-1 overtime loss to NCAA I Stetson.
Lindsey Wilson recorded a 1-1 tie against Spring Arbor in its only match so far this season. The Blue Raiders, who lost to Concordia in the 2011 NAIA National Quarterfinals, return their top scorer from last season in Mai Persson who closed out 2011 with 16 goals.
Hastings will be playing its first matches of the season this weekend. The Broncos won the Great Plains Athletic Conference title in 2011 and return All-American midfielder Jenn Lerner.
Concordia played for the national title in 2011, but fell to Lee in 3-0 in the championship match. The Cavaliers are 2-0 on the year following wins against The Master's College and Trinity Lutheran.
