DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team improved to 2-1 in Sun Conference play with a 2-0 win over St. Thomas on Friday night at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The win moves the Eagles to 7-4 on the season while the Bobcats fall to 3-3 overall, 0-2 in conference play.

The Eagles and Bobcats played an even first half, with neither team having a real scoring chance in the half. Embry-Riddle outshot St. Thomas 4-2, while also attempting the only two corner kicks of the half.

ERAU maintained a clear edge in possession, but just couldn't put a run together as both defenses played stellar in the first half.

With 28 minutes to play, Valerie Obita (ERAU) had the best scoring chance of the game, dribbling past two defenders down the near sideline and shooting the ball just wide of the net.

Four minutes later the Bobcats' Sara Mira was able to beat the Eagles defense and take a quick shot from inside the penalty area, but he attempt was denied by Eagles goalkeeper Lauren Gallant.

In the 70^th minute, Obita got the Blue and Gold on the board with her 12^th goal of the season. After a failed clear attempt by St. Thomas found the feet of Krizzy Menez, the Key West, Fla. native was able to chip the ball into the penalty area where she found an open Obita who found an opening between the goalies legs, giving ERAU the 1-0 lead.

With six minutes to play the Eagles added to their lead scoring off a set piece. Allison Schultz netted her second goal of the year as she was able to head Katherine Ebbs corner kick into the lower left corner just past Bobcats' goalkeeper Victoria Shahbaz for the 2-0 lead.

Embry-Riddle outshot St. Thomas 11-5 for the game, with a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.

The Eagles return to the pitch at 1 p.m. on Sunday as Embry-Riddle hosts Sun Conference foe Florida Memorial at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
