DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The NAIA II No. 4 Embry-Riddle Eagles wrapped up the non-conference portion of their 2012-13 season slate on Thursday night in the Bahama House Classic title game, defeating Voorhees 68-44 to capture the tournament crown and their 13th consecutive victory. Embry-Riddle, now 15-1 overall, will turn its focus towards the remainder of The Sun Conference schedule which begins on Saturday in North Miami, Fla. with a 7 p.m. game against Johnson & Wales. Voorhees drops to 10-8 overall with the loss to the Blue and Gold.

Voorhees led 1-0 after a free throw from Brandon Allen at the 18:16 mark, but the Eagles scored the next eight points and never looked back, cruising to the 24-point win thanks to the offensive efforts of tournament MVP Jason Powell and All-Tournament team selections Cesar Pastrana and Rico Saldana as the three combined for 44 of the Eagles' 68 total points.

With the Embry-Riddle lead at five with 12 minutes left in the first half, Billy Serle hit a three-pointer to extend the Eagle lead to 15-7, followed by a Saldana jumper to push the lead to double-digits.

Powell scored five quick points for the hosts before Saldana received a pass from Billy Serle and made a layup to push the Embry-Riddle advantage to 13, 24-11 at the 9:07 mark.

Neither team scored for over three minutes and the Tigers cut their deficit to nine on back-to-back makes by James Williams. However, Powell hit his second of three treys to balloon the cushion back to 12, 27-15 with under five minutes remaining in the period.

Embry-Riddle maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the rest of the first half, taking a 37-27 lead into the lockerroom. Powell led all scorers with 13 on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor, including a 3-for-4 clip from beyond the arc. Pastrana added 12 points in the first while Saldana grabbed nine rebounds for the hosts.

The Tigers got within eight points when John Stanley hit a jumper with just under 18 minutes left in regulation, but a 13-2 run by the Blue and Gold quickly erased any hope Voorhees had in getting back into the contest as Embry-Riddle led 51-33 at the 13 minute mark.

Daniel Kiesling hit a trey to extend the Eagle lead to 54-35 and the Eagles were never in danger for the remainder of the game and finished the contest on a 9-0 run to account for the 68-44 final.

Powell paced the Eagles for the second night in a row with 17 points, he also grabbed five rebounds and recorded two steals. Pastrana went for 14 markers and six boards while Saldana collected 13 points, a season-high 15 rebounds, four blocks and two steals.

Embry-Riddle outrebounded the Tigers 48-30 and hit 15 of its 20 free throw attempts on the night.

Williams was the only Tiger in double-figures with 13.

The Eagles' 13-game winning streak is the longest since 2009-10 when they won 14 straight.

Game time for Saturday's matchup with Johnson & Wales in North Miami is 7 p.m.
