No. 7 Eagles Blank Racers 9-0

Paola Montero clinched for the Eagles against Northwestern Ohio
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The fourth doubles sweep of the season propelled the seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team to a 9-0 shutout of the University of Northwestern Ohio (4-5), Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles shook off a tough loss on Thursday to improve their overall record to 7-8 on the year just one day later.

Ana Gonzalez-Hoy and Meena Bennett got the scoring started for the Blue and Gold, downing Andrea Arango and Lina Ramos at No. 3 doubles. Giovanna Tomiotto and Paola Montero followed with an 8-2 win over Jess Stambaugh and MaKenzie Klock and fourth-ranked Kristina Marova and Hui-I Huang completed the sweep with an 8-2 defeat of Shaleigh Mcclintock and Shaye Warman at the top spot.

Just over an hour later, both Marova and Montero were finished with their singles matches. Marova was the first to finish her contest at the No. 2 spot as she blanked McClintock 6-0, 6-0. Montero matched Marova's effort, shutting out Warman on court three to clinch the Eagle victory.

Next off the court was Tomiotto, whose 6-2, 6-3 decision against Stambaugh extended the Eagle lead to 6-0. Bennett engaged in the only three-setter of the day, pulling out a 4-6, 6-1, 10-3 win over Klock at No. 6. Gonzalez-Hoy followed with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Ramos at the fifth position and Huang secured the Eagles' third shutout of the year with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Arango at No. 1 singles.

The Eagles return to Sun Conference play at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Webber International at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
