NCAA II No. 8 Lynn Tops NAIA No. 8 ERAU 5-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team closed out its regular season slate with a loss to NCAA II No. 8 Lynn on Sunday. The Eagles (9-9), ranked eighth in the NAIA, played the Fighting Knights tough in doubles, but in the end it was Lynn (14-2) who was able to come out on top, downing ERAU 5-1 at the Crotty Tennis Complex.

The first match off the court was at No. 3 doubles where ERAU's Meena Bennett and Ana Gonzalez-Hoy handled Aleks Vikadinovic and Valintina Chacin 8-2. At No. 1 doubles, Kristina Marova and Hui-I Huang led Val Confalonieri and Ioana Ivan 6-5, but the Lynn tandem was able to overcome the slight deficit and took the match 8-6.

The match at the second doubles spot featured a see-saw battle between the Eagles' Giovanna Tomiotto and Paola Montero and Lynn's Przeszlowski and Alina Jane. In the end it was the Lynn duo that earned the decision with an 8-6 win to put the Fighting Knights up 2-1 heading into singles.

In singles play, Jane earned a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Tomiotto at No. 5 to extend the Lynn lead to 3-1. At No. 1 singles Confalonieri, ranked fourth in the NCAA II singles ratings, bested Huang 6-2, 6-2 and Ivan, the No. 13 player in NCAA II, topped Marova 6-3, 6-2 to seal the Lynn victory.

The Eagles will have one final tune-up before conference tournament play begins on April 19 when they host Florida State College-Jacksonville in a scrimmage on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
