BOXSCORE

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Monday, falling to seventh-ranked Mobile in the second Top-15 match-up of the day at the ERAU Soccer Stadium.

Playing in sweltering heat for the second time in as many days, the Eagles got off to a slow start. The Lady Rams had the better of the offense in the first half of the contesting, besting the Eagles 7-0 in shots on frame. They were able to capitalize on one of those attempts at the 31:54 mark when Tyler-Rae Molloy ran onto a pass from Katie Compton. ERAU goalkeeper Olivia Lynch got a hand to Molloy's initial attempt but the WCU forward latched on to the rebound and tapped the ball into the net for a 1-0 WCU lead.

The Lady Rams struck again just three minutes later when Compton dribbled in behind the Eagle defense before slotting a shot into the left side netting to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Although the Lady Rams held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks and a 4-2 edge in shots on goal, the second half was more evenly contested. The Blue and Gold fought back against a physical Mobile team and came close to scoring in tthe 75th minute. Kristin Sverrisdottir launched a free kick from about 35 yards out, but her attempt bounced off the cross bar and into the path of Katherine Ebbs, whose attempt was scooped up by Mobile goalkeeper Gillian McMahon.

Mobile had a chance to add to its tally with three minutes remaining, but Elissa Chamberlain's shot hit the post and the game ended the way the second half had begun – with Mobile up 2-0.

"We didn't show up at all in the first half today and we can't expect to be able to claw our way back in the second half against a good team like Mobile," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon stated. "We knew they were good coming in; we certainly did not take them lightly, so I'm not really sure why we didn't seem to have our head in the game. We were passing to them more than we passed to our own team. That they had a day of rest compared to us playing back-to-back is no excuse.

"I don't want to take anything away from Mobile. They were exactly what we expected; hardworking, organized. Brian [Pearson] did a great job with their team, especially this year. We know they're a young group. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with our effort, especially in the first half. So we just have to respond, to learn from it and figure out a way to avoid this kind of inconsistent performance happening again.  Again credit goes to Mobile for taking it to us today.

For the game, Mobile outshot ERAU 15-6, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal and had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. McMahon finished with two saves, while the Eagles' Olivia Lynch pulled in six saves in 45 minutes of work.

The Eagles go on the road next weekend for a two-game swing beginning with a 5 p.m. (CST) tilt against Auburn Montgomery in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Friday.
