Game Recap: RV Women's Soccer |

No. 1 @ERAUWSoccer Dominant in 3-0 Defeat of Hastings

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The top-seeded Embry-Riddle women's soccer team (18-1) punched its ticket to the quarterfinal round of the 31st Annual NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship with a 3-0 shutout of Hastings (17-5-1), Monday at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. The Eagles posted a dominant performance on the way to their 13th consecutive win and their fourth straight national tournament quarterfinal appearance.

The Eagles were led by Katherine Ebbs, who contributed to all three goals with a goal and two assists. As a team, the Eagles bested the Broncos 25-1 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks.

At the 11:41 mark, the Eagles won their first corner kick of the game. Ebbs took the set piece from the right side and sailed a cross into the box where Julie Karlernas headed home her seventh goal of the season to give the Blue and Gold an early lead.

The one-goal advantage was not enough for ERAU who continued to press for another score. Two of the best scoring chances came within seconds of each other midway through the half. At the 26:20 mark, Isabelle Haaranen dribbled through the defense before rocketing a shot off toward the upper right corner, but Hastings goalkeeper Mallory Taylor managed to snag it out of the air at the last minute to deny Haaranen the goal. Less than 40 seconds later, Karlernas launched a long-range shot of her own, but her shot bounced off the post to keep the score 1-0 at the break.

The Broncos had the kick-off to start the second half, but were immediately dispossessed by the Eagles who immediately set about finding the back of the net once again. The Eagles didn't get the goal they were looking for right away and that gave Hastings a little confidence as they began to push their players up the field a little more. While they enjoyed slightly more possession in the second frame than they did in the first 45 minutes of play, the Broncos fell victim to a stifling ERAU defense and were unable to get another shot off.

With 20 minutes left, the Eagles persistence finally paid off. After being turned back by Taylor three times, Andrea Froshaug looked to create chances for her teammates. She collected the ball in the middle of the pitch and took a few touches before slipping a pass through to Ebbs on the run. Ebbs finished the play by slotting home her seventh goal of the year to make the score 2-0.

Less than eight minutes later, Froshaug got into the scoring column herself when she recorded a first-touch finish of an Ebbs cross to seal the three-goal win.

The Eagles will be back in action at 11 a.m. (CST) on Wednesday when they take on ninth-seeded Benedictine who outshot Spring Arbor 3-1 in penalty kicks to advance.
