ABOUT EMBRY-RIDDLEThe Blue and Gold are 8-6 on the season and 5-1 in The Sun Conference after picking up a pair of 3-0 sweeps at Webber International and Warner last weekend. The Eagles reached the NAIA National Tournament Final Site for the fourth consecutive season in 2013. Head Coach Josylnn Gallop is the winningest coach in program history, owning a 245-90 career record in this, her 10th season at the helm of the Eagles.
ABOUT COASTAL GEORGIACoastal Georgia is 17-0 on the season, 10-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference matches, and are ranked 23rd in the NAIA. The Mariners have lost just five sets on the year, recording 13 3-0 sweeps.
As a team, CCG ranks among the top 20 in the NAIA in a number of categories, including leading the nation in hitting percentage (.340) and assists/set (14.04). The Mariners are also second in the NAIA in kills/set (14.82), fourth in service aces/set (2.55) and 17th in blocks/set (2.32). Maddie Bounds ranks second in the country with a .430 hitting percentage, 21st in blocks/set (1.17) and 45th in serve aces/set (0.48); she also leads the team with 164 kills. Rachel Amundson ranks 11th in hitting percentage (.359) and Emma Anderson is 31st with a .317 hitting percentage. Cayley Meiners is the number one setter in the NAIA, averaging 12.52 assists/set; Meiners is also 31st in service aces/set with 0.52. Jennifer Johnson leads the team with 252 digs.
EAGLES DOMINANT AT HOMESince 2008, the Eagles have made the ICI Center a difficult place for visitors to play. Embry-Riddle holds an 83-15 record at home since the beginning of the 2008 season, a winning percentage of .847. In Sun Conference play, the Eagles have lost just once at home since the beginning of the 2010 season. Since then, the Blue and Gold have won 27 of its last 28 home conference matches.
BLUE AND GOLD AMONG THE NATION'S BESTThe Eagles have shown this season that they are among the best in the NAIA in kills and assists. Embry-Riddle is currently averaging 13.02 kills/set, the 18th-best average in the country. With 11.98 assists/set, ERAU ranks 21st in the NAIA.
GRAY DOMINANT DEFENSIVELYSenior libero
Hannah Gray has proven that she is one of the best defensive players in the country with her stellar play this season. Gray, last year's Sun Conference Libero of the Year, is currently averaging 6.52 digs/set, the sixth-highest average in the nation. On Aug. 30, the DeLand, Florida native racked up 46 digs, which is currently tied for the fifth-highest single-match total in the NAIA this year.
FERREIRA DOING IT ALLJunior setter
Tamires Ferreira is out to prove that setters can do more than just rack up assists. She has done a great job circulating the ball while running the 5-1 offense for the Eagles, recording 535 assists for an average of 10.49 assists/set, which ranks her 13th in the nation in that category. Ferreira totaled a career-high 60 assists against St. Thomas on Sept. 12, which is currently tied for the fourth-highest single-match total in the nation this season. In addition to setting, she has also collected a team-leading 37 service aces, ranking second in the NAIA with an average of 0.73 service aces/set, in addition to picking up 144 digs, second-best on the team. Ferreira has also proven to be an offensive threat herself, putting down 55 kills, the sixth-highest total on the team. The Barbacena, Brazil native also has 14 blocks on the season, ranking sixth on the Eagle squad.
BEATTY COMING UP BIGSenior outside hitter
Jennifer Beatty has been climbing the national leaderboard as of late, and currently ranks 15th in the NAIA with 3.80 kills/set. Beatty leads the team with 190 kills, including a 28-kill effort against St. Thomas on Sept. 12, which is currently tied for the sixth-highest single-match total in the nation this season.
MILESTONE CHASEAt least one Eagle is in the hunt for a career milestone and a program record during the 2014 season.
Hannah Gray stands at 1,726 career digs, 58 behind Senia McIntyre's 1,784 program record number. Gray has led the team in digs in each of her two years at Embry-Riddle, including last year's single-season school-record 809 digs.
PRESEASON FAVORITESThe Sun Conference coaches selected the Eagles to top the league's preseason poll, released in August. Embry-Riddle garnered seven first-place votes and 49 total points to claim the No. 1 spot in the poll, while St. Thomas came in second with one first-place votes and 41 total points.
20 SEASONS OF EAGLE VOLLEYBALLThe 2014 season marks the 20th edition of Eagle volleyball. Embry-Riddle is 435-244 all-time, capturing six regular season titles, five conference tournament titles and making four appearances at the NAIA National Championship.
