DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - St. Francis (ill.) pounded out 16 hits and benefited from six Embry-Riddle errors en route to a 13-4 win over the Eagles at Sliwa Stadium. ERAU dropped to 12-10 on the season while the Fighting Saints improved to 2-5 on the year.
The Eagles host Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Dylan Demarest (0-2) got the start for the Eagles, but could only get through three innings, surrendering seven runs on six hits. Only three of the runs were earned against Demarest as the ERAU defense struggled in the opening innings.
St. Francis struck for four runs in the second and never looked back, plating three runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth to effectively put the game out of reach.
Embry-Riddle was able to get two runs across the plate in the sixth thanks to an
A.J. Mazzurco double and a
Logan Malphurs single, and the Blue and Gold scored another run in the seventh when
Liam Goodall brought home
Kyle Zirbes after Zirbes had tripled.
A run in the visitor eighth but them back up by 10 at 13-3, but
Eric Simone collected his first hit as an Eagle with a double to right center to chase home Malphurs in the last of the eighth to account for the 13-4 final.
ERAU recorded 12 hits in the game, but left 10 on base. Zirbes, Goodall,
Cody Bogart and Malphurs all recorded two hits.
The Eagles used six different pitchers, including the season debuts of
Brett Allen,
Dominic Jeancola and Zirbes.
