DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 loss to NCAA DI Campbell on Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
 
The Camels took a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles play early in the match. Iri Karangozishvili and Isabel Boada defeated Paula Ortiz Couder and Kathryn Bock 8-2. Georgina Segarra and Nina Asanin then downed Hui-I Huang and Anna Gotz 8-3 while Maud Mrad and Ana Mariz Ortiz beat Giovanna Tomiotto and Meena Bennett by the same margin before moving onto to singles play.
 
The No. 1 singles match up pitted Huang of the Eagles against Karangozishvili. Karangozishvili won the match 6-2, 6-1. Segarra bested Couder 6-3, 6-4, Ortiz ousted Tomiotto 6-4, 6-4, Asanin defeated Bock 6-3, 7-5 and Telenga downed Bennett 6-3, 6-4.
 
Gotz was the only Eagle to take her match to the third set ten-point tiebreaker. Mrad came out on top to end ERAU's chance at a point. She beat Gotz 6-1, 3-6, 10-7.
 
The Eagles will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2 to host Bethune Cookman at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
