High-Scoring Game Goes Barry's Way in 120-100 Decision Over @ERAUMBasketball

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Fans of offense should have found themselves in the Health & Sports Center on Barry's campus on Saturday afternoon as the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team couldn't quite keep pace with the host Bucs in a 120-100 loss. The Eagles (10-3) led by as many as eight in the first half, shooting 72 percent from the field, but went cold from deep in the second half (0-15) as the Bucs (11-2) connected on 10 more field goals, including eight triples in the final period to pull away for the win.

Four Eagles scored in double-figures, led by Reed Ridder's 22 points, but Barry controlled the boards, 38-28, and put six different players in double-digits offensively, including 27 points from Yunio Barrueta.

A Ridder three put the Eagles up 3-2 just 45 seconds into the contest, and the Eagles made their next eight shots, including seven straight points from Ognjen Miljkovic, to go up 21-13 on a Miljkovic jumper in the paint. However, the Bucs stayed right with the visitors, trimming the lead to 27-26 on a pair of free throws from Anders Haas with 11 minutes to go in the period.

Joseph Gonzalez made a trey to grow the lead back to four at 30-26, and Skyler Hogan got in on the scoring with a jumper a few minutes later, but Barry came back with a 10-2 run to take a 36-34 lead.

The two teams traded baskets for the final eight minutes of the first half, and a Ridder three-pointer tied the game at 55-55 with 17 seconds to go before BU ended the half with a free throw from Tray Leonard to take a one-point cushion into the break.

ERAU was 23-for-32 from the field in the first, including an 8-for-14 effort from long range, the difference being a +5 free throw shooting advantage from Barry.

The teams began the second half much like the first ended, trading made buckets with a Dillon Graham fastbreak jumper knotting the score at 61-61 less than 90 seconds into the period.

With a 76-74 lead at the 14-minute mark, the Bucs went on an 8-1 run to balloon their cushion to nine points on a Adrian Gonzalez layup, and from that point on, the Eagles couldn't seem to get much closer as Barry answered nearly every one of the Blue and Gold's buckets with one of its own.

Joseph Gonzalez cut the ERAU deficit to 10, 107-97 at the 3:26 mark, but the hot-shooting Bucs finished the game on a 13-3 run to make a close game seem not so close at the final horn.

Miljkovic scored 21 points to trail only Ridder on the ERAU scoring chart, while Dalton Barnes added 18 points and seven assists and Gonzalez finished with 14 points and six boards.

The Bucs were paced by Barrueta's 27, and Haas had 26 points while Leonard went for a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds), as did Elvar Fridriksson (14 points, 13 assists). Barry shot 59 percent for the game, converting on 14-of-27 from long range.

Barry's 120 points, which set a school record for the Bucs, were the most allowed by the Eagles since a 126-120 overtime win over Flagler in 1992.

Embry-Riddle stays on the road and will travel to Saint Leo to square off against the Lions on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
