Hot-Shooting Tampa Storms Past @ERAUMBasketball, 107-91

TAMPA, Fla. - There was a sense of déjà vu at the Martinez Center on Saturday afternoon, only reversed as the Tampa Spartans shot a blistering 64 percent from the field to send the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team to their second straight loss, 107-91. A year ago at the Martinez Center it was the Eagles who shot past Tampa in a 92-79 victory, but this time around was a different story, despite the Eagles (4-4) shooting nearly 50 percent themselves, the visitors couldn't overcome a 16-point halftime deficit or 11 made three-pointers from the Spartans (6-3).

Dillon Graham gave the Eagles their only lead of the contest with a made free throw 10 seconds into the game, but the hosts would go on an 18-9 run over the next five minutes and never relented, connecting on 10-of-15 threes in the opening period.

Trailing 34-16 with 10:30 left in the half, the Eagles were able to get to within 10 on a Skyler Hogan layup at the 8:03 mark, but the Spartans answered the ERAU run with one of their own, extending their lead to 47-28 on an Anthony Gamble triple.

Again the Blue and Gold tried to grab some momentum before the half, going on an 11-0 spurt, culminating with six straight points from Dalton Barnes as the deficit shrank to 47-39, however UT outscored ERAU 10-2 over the final 2:20 of the half, taking a 57-41 cushion into the lockerroom.

Barnes and Luka Majstorovic each scored 11 first-half points and the Eagles enjoyed a 52 percent clip from the field, but just 3-of-12 from deep compared to UT's 10-of-15 proved to be the difference in the opening half.

Tampa did not allow the Eagles to really get back into the game in the second half, running its lead to a game-high 25 at the 10:39 mark, 81-56. The closest ERAU would get the rest of the way was an 11-point deficit after a Hogan three with 68 seconds left.

Tampa had five players in double-figures, led by Pat Bacon's 30 points, ending the contest shooting 64 percent from the floor, 58 percent from the field and going 22-for-26 at the charity stripe.

Barnes scored 22 and added six rebounds and six assists, while Hogan finished with 18 points, six boards and three assists. Majstorovic scored a career-best 17 points with five rebounds, and Shaquan McArthur was the other Eagle in double-figures with 13 points to go along with four rebounds.

Embry-Riddle returns to the ICI Center to host Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday, Dec. 9 for the final home game before the holiday break. Friday's game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
