14th Annual ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic Set for Saturday

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Nearly 1,000 runners will descend on the campus of Embry-Riddle on Saturday morning for the 14th edition of the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic. The race features 10 collegiate teams and 23 high schools, including nine from Volusia County. The lone home meet of the season for the Eagles, the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic is run on one of the most challenging courses in the state of Florida, a course that features numerous types of terrain, including athletic fields, grass hills, mulch trails and concrete.

On the men's college side, Embry-Riddle will look to extend its win streak at its home meet to 10 consecutive seasons, dating back to 2007. Last season's winner was Bethune-Cookman's Daniel Kiptoo who ran a 26:13.24. The top returning finisher for ERAU in 2015 was Andrew Carpenter who paced the Eagles with a 27:06.22.

For the women, the Eagles snapped a two-year title drought last season, beating out NCAA I Stetson. Alex Orr won the race in 19:09.00, followed by Sarah Edens in 19:19.00 as the Blue and Gold placed five runners in the top-15 to claim the team title.

In addition to Embry-Riddle, NCAA I schools Bethune-Cookman, Seton Hall and Tennessee State will all compete on Saturday, as well as NCAA II squads Florida Tech and Rollins. Edward Waters and Johnson & Wales (Fla.) will represent the NAIA with Florida College and the University of Florida's club teams also competing.

After the college races, the high school runners will take center stage, starting with the varsity girls race, a race won last season by Ponte Vedra (large school) and Bishop Moore (small school). The 2015 boys varsity race crowns went to Mountain View (large school) and Father Lopez (small school)

The day's events begin at 7:20 a.m. with the collegiate men's race, followed by the women's collegiate race at 7:50 a.m. The high school girls (8:15 a.m.), high school boys (8:40 a.m.), junior varsity girls (9:05 a.m.) and junior varsity boys (9:30 a.m.) races round out the morning.

Live results can be found at Elite Timing following each race, where you can also find the 8k and 5k maps.
