@ERAUMBasketball Comes Up Just Short at No. 5 Barry, 86-80

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team attempted to do something on Saturday afternoon that hadn't been done in nearly two seasons: beat the Barry Buccanners at the Bucs' home court, but the Eagles' valiant effort came up just short as the fifth-ranked Bucs (14-1) pulled away late to beat ERAU (9-6), 86-80.

Barry, which won its 28th-straight home contest, shot nearly 49 percent from the field and made 13 three-pointers on Saturday, improving to 6-0 all-time against the Eagles.

The final 90 seconds were won by the home team after Dillon Graham converted a huge and-one after a made jumper, pulling the Eagles to within one at 75-74 at the 1:47 mark. Barry's Elvar Fridriksson made a driving layup on the next Barry possession and after a missed shot by the Eagles, Barry's Adrian Gonzalez grabbed an offensive rebound for the Bucs, made a jumper and was fouled en route to his own three-point play, putting BU up 80-74 with 50 seconds left.

The Eagles were forced to foul over the final 50 seconds and the Bucs went a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe to seal the six-point win.

Both point guards excelled for their respective teams as Fridriksson and the Eagles' Dalton Barnes led their teams with 24 and 20 points, respectively, while Barnes added seven boards, seven assists and three steals.

The Eagles also got big games from Shaquan McArthur, Graham and Skyler Hogan. McArthur was just a rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 17 points and nine boards, while Graham scored 17 points and Hogan went for his third double-double of the year with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The game started surprising slowly for the two offensive-minded teams as the Eagles were able to build a 16-12 lead on a Luka Majstorovic layup at the 13:34 mark of the opening period. After a McArthur jumper that made it a six-point ERAU lead, the hosts responded with an 8-3 run to trim the lead to one at 21-20.

With the Eagles leading 27-24 at the five-minute mark, the Bucs finished the half on a 12-4 run to take momentum and a five-point lead into the break.

The Bucs took their lead out to nine early in the second half, but the Eagles went on a quick 6-0 run, capped by a Graham jumper, to cut the deficit to three.

A Cole Hunter trey with just under 12 minutes left tied the game at 51-51, and after a defensive stop, Barnes got a layup to fall for the Eagles' first and final lead of the second half.

Barry answered with a triple and kept the lead, growing it to as many as five before Graham's and-one with 90 seconds left, before holding on for the six-point win.

Embry-Riddle returns to Daytona Beach to host Florida Southern and Saint Leo at the ICI Center next week, with Wednesday's game against the Mocs set for a 7:30 p.m. tip and Saturday's tilt versus the Lions slated for 7 p.m.
