@ERAUMBasketball Drops Road Game to Rollins, 92-83

WINTER PARK, Fla. - Second-half shooting woes haunted the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team on Wednesday night in Warden Arena as the Rollins Tars sent the Eagles (4-4, 0-3) to their first 0-3 start in conference history with a 92-83 win over ERAU.The Tars (5-2, 3-0) held ERAU to just 3-for-14 from deep in the second half, turning a three-point halftime lead into a lead as big as 14 in the second before putting the game away over the final minutes at the free throw line.

Rollins made just one more three-pointer on the night, but shot the triple at a 50 percent clip compared to the Eagles' 29 percent long range night, and despite the Eagles having five players in double-figures, the Tars got a huge game from Deion Clark who went for 19 points, 16 rebounds and five assists in the win.

After an Eric Castaneda three to open the game, Elijah Jenkins answered in the other end to tie the game at 3-3 and a few moments later ERAU would take its only lead of the night on a layup from Joshua Hawkins, putting ERAU in front, 7-6. A three from Clark gave the Tars the lead for good, and the advantage eventually grew to 11 at the 6:34 mark on a Sam Philpott tip-in and the Tars threatened to pull away. However, the visitors went on an 13-2 run over the next five minutes, capped by a trey from Rudy Bibb-Boyd to make it a one-point game at 40-39, but a Philpott layup stopped the run and gave Rollins a 42-39 lead going into the break.

Bibb-Boyd had 12 points in the first half, connecting on four threes, while Castaneda had 15 points for Rollins and Jeff Merton chipped in 13 for the Tars.

Rollins came out of the half and went on a quick, 7-0 run to go up double-digits, 49-39 and after Jenkins and Clark traded threes, ERAU got back-to-back layups from Shaquan McArthur and Ognjen Miljkovic to get the Eagles within six points, but back-to-back threes from Castaneda and Jack Fleming put the hosts back up by nine.

ERAU again got to within six on a McArthur layup with 12:51 left, but Rollins responded with an 11-3 run to grow its lead to 14 (72-58). Down 81-71 with 6:28 to go, the Eagles had one last run in them, getting a three from Mackey and a tip-in from Hawkins to make it a five-point game, and after a fantastic block from Mackey on the defensive end, the Eagles had the chance to get within a possession, but a turnover, followed by a Rollins tip-in turned the momentum back to the Tars and they would go 7-for-8 at the charity stripe the rest of the way to seal the win.

Mackey finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks, falling just a rebound shy from his sixth double-double of the season. Bibb-Boyd went for 15 points, while Jenkins added 14 points, Hawkins had 13 points and seven boards, and Miljkovic finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Eagles get a week off before traveling to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern on Wednesday, Dec. 6 for a 7:30 p.m. tip against the Mocs.
