ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team split on Sunday at the South/Southeast Region tournament. The Eagles fell 2-1 to Newberry College (4-1) and shutout Flagler (5-5) 1-0 to move to 3-5 on the season.
Game 1 – NC 2, ERAU 1
The Eagles gave up one unearned run committing three errors in the third inning, allowing the Wolves to take the 1-0 lead in the early stages of the game.
The Eagles loaded the bases in the fifth inning, but Newberry got the force outs at home to prevent scoring and end the frame maintaining its 1-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, the Wolves scored a run to increase their lead to 2-0. ERAU answered back with a run of their own after
Mckenzee Quinn walked and was advanced by
Hannah Thomas and
Jayla Jackson's at-bats to load the bases.
Anna Battison got the RBI with a walk to bring in Quinn, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Blue and Gold were unable to push across the tying run in the seventh inning, falling 2-1 to the Wolves.
Kassidy Simons (1-3) took the loss and gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts. Battison went 1-for-1 with three walks, a stolen base and the sole RBI of the game.
Game 2 – ERAU 1, FC 0
After leaving runners on base in the first two innings, Embry-Riddle took the one-run lead in the third inning when
Maggie Scott tripled and was driven in by Simons' single.
The Saints had opportunities to score but left six runners stranded on base, giving the Eagles the 1-0 victory.
Ilona Andringa (2-2) earned her first shutout allowing only one hit and three walks with seven strikeouts. Scott went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.
The Eagles travel to Fort Lauderdale on Friday, Feb. 17 to take on the Nova Southeastern Sharks in a three-game series with a single game Friday at 7 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
