SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team fell to the No. 8 Saint Leo Lions, 7-0 on Friday. The Blue and Gold become 4-8 while the Lions improve to 13-3 on the season.
The Eagles put
Eryn Chester on base in the first inning but could not push a run across. The Blue and Gold found the third out to end the first inning, but not before allowing a solo home run to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Saint Leo put runners on base in the second, third and fourth innings but scored only one run in the third with an RBI single by Samantha Ohmie.
Kassidy Simons led off the fifth inning with a double to the right-center field gap but three consecutive outs left her stranded on second.
Saint Leo rallied in the fifth inning, bringing in four additional runs to boost their lead to 6-0.
In the top of the sixth,
Destiny Carroll landed on second with a two-out double and advanced to third after a single by Chester, but both were left on base.
The Lions knocked in one additional run for a seven-run lead after the sixth inning.
Two Eagles reached base in the seventh but could not make it home to cut the deficit, ending the game in a 7-0 loss.
Simons (1-5) took the loss allowing 11 hits and one walk with eight strikeouts and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Chester went 2-for-3 and Carroll went 1-for-2 with a double.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow to face Saint Leo in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
