GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Embry-Riddle Eagles wrapped up the Gulf Coast Invitational falling 5-1 to Mississippi College and 4-3 to Mobile on Sunday. The Eagles record is now 2-4. Mississippi College becomes 2-1 and Mobile moves 4-0.
Game 1 – MC 5, ERAU 1
The Eagles picked up the lead in the first inning after Anna Battison reached first on a walk, was advanced to second by Eryn Chester's sacrifice bunt and to third by Kassidy Simon's ground out and batted in by Maggie Scott's base hit.
The Choctaws took over in the top of the second with a two-run homerun for a 2-1 lead. Kendall Funk led off the bottom of the inning with a single but was left stranded at second.
Infield errors by Embry-Riddle in the third inning allowed MC to score, building their lead to 3-1.
Mississippi College had runners in scoring position in the fourth inning but putouts by Embry-Riddle prevented any runs.
Long hits to the gap in left center gave Mississippi College two additional runs in the fifth inning. Infield groundouts proved to be ERAU's undoing with no runners getting on base, ending the inning down 5-1.
Neither team was able to score any runs in the sixth or seventh innings, ending the game in a 5-1 loss for the Eagles.
Scott had the sole RBI for the team and Andringa allowed only one walk but gave up five runs and 10 hits. The loss brings her record to 1-2.
Game 2 -UM 4, ERAU 3
The Eagles grabbed the lead in the first inning with a rare four-base error bringing Battison home on her own at-bat.
Embry-Riddle led 1-0 until the third when the Rams took advantage of Eagle errors, scoring four unearned to take a 4-1 lead.
Chester cut the deficit after reaching first on a base hit, stealing second and third, and advancing home on an error by UM catcher. The Eagles ended the fifth inning down by two.
The Eagles trimmed the lead to one in the sixth after Natalie Morales, pinch running for Simons, is sent around the diamond with a bunt from Kailah Rain followed by a sacrifice bunt from Kim George and a sacrifice fly from Destiny Carroll.
The Eagles put runners on second and third with one out in the seventh, but Mobile's double play ended the game in a 4-3 loss.
Simons allowed two walks and seven hits and did not give up any earned runs. The loss brings Simons' record to 1-2.
The Eagles return to action Sunday, February 12 as they take on Newberry at 1 p.m. and Flagler at 3:30 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla.
