WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team swept a doubleheader against Rollins on Saturday to win the weekend series, two games to one. The Eagles battled the Tars to a 5-4 victory in game one and exploded in game two with a 7-3 final score. The Blue and Gold moves to 20-19 while Rollins becomes 23-18.
 
GAME ONE – ERAU 5, RC 4
 
The Eagles started strong scoring two runs in the first inning when 
Kassidy Simons singled in 
Maggie Scott and 
Kendall Funk brought in 
Anna Battison with a sacrifice fly. Simons retired the side to end the first inning with ERAU up 2-0.
 
Rollins scored one run in the second inning to cut the Eagle lead to 2-1.
 
The Eagles furthered their lead to 3-1 with a run in the third inning after 
Maggie Scott led off with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and came home on 
Eryn Chester's groundout. The Tars tied the game at three with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the third.
 
In the fifth inning, the Blue and Gold regained the lead when Simons doubled to left-center to bring Battison in from second. Rollins once again knotted the game at four with an RBI fielder's choice in the same inning.
 
Jayla Jackson led off the sixth inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. She was singled in by Chester to put the Eagles up 5-4.
 
The Eagles held off the Tars to secure their 5-4 victory.
 
Simons (8-9) earned the win in a complete game effort giving up four runs on eight hits striking out seven. She finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. 
Anna Battison went 3-for-4 with two runs while 
Jayla Jackson was 2-for-3 with one run scored.
 
GAME TWO – ERAU 7, RC 3
 
In a similar fashion, the Eagles began game two with two runs in the first inning. Simons singled Scott in and then Thomas singled in Battison.
 
The Tars hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first to cut the gap to 2-1.
 
The Eagles went on a hitting streak in the second inning with four consecutive (two extra-base) hits to lead off the inning. 
Kailah Rain led off with a triple, followed by Carroll's single to score Rain. Scott advanced Carroll to third with her double and Chester singled in Carroll to put the score at 4-1. Scott stole home to put the Eagles up 5-1 before the first out. With two outs, Simons singled in Chester and ended the inning up 6-1.
 
The Eagles added one in the third when Scott doubled to bring Rain in and give the Eagles a commanding six-run lead.
 
The Tars scored one run in the fifth and hit another solo home run in the seventh but could not make a comeback and the game ended in a 7-3 victory to seal the Eagles' series win.
 
Ilona Andringa (12-10) earned the win with a complete game, giving up three runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Rain went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a triple. Scott finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and two doubles.
 
The Eagles head to Boca Raton for a weekend series against Lynn beginning with a single game Friday at 3 p.m.
