DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team (2-11) was unable to get by Florida Southern (12-5) on Thursday, falling to the 25
th-ranked Moccasins 6-3 at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
The Eagles recorded the first point of the day when
Alexis Marshall and
Maud Mrad toppled Selin Devrimci and Sasha Ninova at the top doubles spot. The Mocs responded by winning the remaining two doubles contests as Lola Asis and Linnea Skymberg held off Maria Turillo and
Kathryn Bock 8-6 at No. 2, and Lorena Rionda and Magda Stepnik topped
Lydia Carter 8-4 at No. 3.
The Eagles notched their second point when Rionda retired with an injury after trailing Turrillo 4-3 at No. 2 singles. The Mocs answered with Asis' 6-2, 6-1 win over Carter on court five and Skymberg followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mrad at the top spot.
Marshall bested Devrimci 6-3, 6-2 at the third position, but Stepnik secured the win for FSC by scoring the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Gonzalez-Hoy at No. 6.
The Eagles' next match is slated for 3:30 p.m. on April 13 when Flagler comes to the Crotty Tennis Complex.
