DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team faced its toughest challenge to date on Sunday afternoon at the ERAU Lacrosse Field, dropping a 22-7 decision to NCAA II No. 19 Pace. The Eagles (5-2) failed to reach the 20-goal mark for the first time in 2018 as the Setters (3-1) did most of their damage in the first half, taking a 15-5 lead into the break.
The Setters controlled the flow of the game for the most part, owning a 43-16 advantage in shots and a 33-13 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles turned the ball over 26 times compared to 11 Setter turnovers while the Eagles did hold a slim, 16-15 edge in draw controls.
Neither team could find the back of the net for the first couple minutes, but Courtney Pabst tallied the first score of the day at the 27:37 mark, and quickly added another just 61 seconds later. However, the Eagles were able to answer back quickly as
McKenzie Jackson and
Kendall Leonard scored in quick succession to make it 2-2.
The next five minutes were owned by the visitors as they scored five straight goals to take a 7-2 lead before
Mya Watson was able to stop the run with an unassisted goal with 19 minutes left in the first.
Another four Pace goals preceded an
Erin Bryenton goal, and
McKenzie Jackson added one at the nine-minute mark, but Pace scored three more and led 15-5 at halftime.
The Setters ended any hope of second-half comeback by scoring the first six goals of the second half, holding ERAU to just two shots in the first 20 minutes of the period. Jackson and
Meg Jourden both tallied goals late in the half before Pace added its final score for the 22-7 final.
Jackson scored three times for the Eagles, while
Skylar Mossop (1-2) made 11 saves in the loss.
The Eagles host their second-straight top-25 team on Wednesday when No. 25 Lock Haven comes to Daytona Beach for a 1 p.m. start.
