DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team faced a tough Lock Haven squad on Wednesday, falling to the No. 25 team in the country, 22-13. The Blue and Gold dropped to 5-3 with the loss, while LHU improved to 4-1.
Facing a nationally-ranked opponent for the second straight game, the Eagles started strong, as
McKenzie Jackson opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game. After a pair of Bald Eagle goals,
Mya Watson tallied her first goal at the 23:44 mark to tie things up at 2-2. Lock Haven then scored five goals in four minutes to pull out to a 7-2 lead, which stretched to 10-3 with 12:14 left in the first half. Watson and Jackson scored back-to-back goals to cut it to 10-5, only to see LHU score three straight to extend the lead to 13-5. ERAU ended the half on a high note, scoring three of the final four goals to go into the break down 14-8.
LHU came out in the second half and scored the first five goals to grow its advantage to double-figures at 19-8. The Blue and Gold continued to battle, scoring four of the next five goals to bring the margin back down to eight (20-12) with 5:15 to play, but the Bald Eagles would go on to take the victory by a 22-13 final score.
Watson and Jackson each scored five goals, with Jackson adding three assists for a game-high eight points to go along with a game-best 10 draw controls.
Skylar Mossop tallied a team-leading four ground balls and made eight saves in just over 45 minutes of work in goal for the Eagles.
ERAU hits the road for its next two contests, beginning with a Saturday matchup at Young Harris at 2 p.m.
