DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team came out on the losing end of a Sunshine State Conference battle on Wednesday, falling to 19th-ranked Rollins 6-3 at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
The day started with a doubles point for Rollins as Teresa Kaiser and Katie Dyson downed
Georgina Wood and Sabrina Ehrenfort 8-2 at the No. 2 spot.
Kathryn Bock and
Maria Turrillo teamed up for an 8-5 win over Fabiana Vitanza and Alexandra Borg, but Savanna Fuller and Marie Debruyn broke the deadlock with a come-from-behind 9-7 win over
Lydia Carter and Roberta Krvajica on court three.
Ehrenfort earned the Eagles' firt singles point with her 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Goldman at No. 4 singles. However, the next three points went to the Tars as Debruyn topped Carter 6-3, 6-4, Dyson topped Wood 6-2, 6-2, and Fuller scored the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Bock at the fifth spot.
At No. 1 singles, Turrillo dropped the first set 6-2, but bounced back to take the second 7-5 and earned the Eagles' final point of the day by besting Vitanza 10-6 in the tiebreaking third set. The match at No. 2 singles went to three full sets, and in the end it was Borg was able to hold off Kravjica 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
The loss puts the Eagles at 6-8 overall and 1-5 in the SSC, while the Tars, currently third in the conference standings, improved their league record to 4-2 and are 11-6 overall.
The Eagles will have another conference match on Saturday when they host Nova Southeastern. Match time is slated for 10 a.m.
