DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis was unable to sustain a 2-1 lead after doubles play, losing 5-4 to Sunshine State Conference foe Nova Southeastern.
The dual started with a doubles point for the Eagles as
Lydia Carter and Sabrina Ehrenfort downed Eva Agasse and Alexandra Yeardley 8-1 at the No. 3 spot. Andrea Ivanovic and Daniela Obando evened things up with an 8-5 win over
Maria Turrillo and
Kathryn Bock.
Georgina Wood and Roberta Krvajica gave ERAU the lead with a come-from-behind 9-7 win over Ana Navas and Isabella Lowrey.
The next three points went to the Sharks. At No. 1 singles, Turrillo dropped the first set 0-6 and the second set 4-6 to Nava. Bock dropped both sets 4-6 in her match with Lowrey, giving the Sharks the lead. Carter earned the Eagles' first singles point with her 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Agasse at No. 6 to even the match 3-3.
The match at No. 2 singles went to three sets and was the deciding match in the dual. In the end, it was Ivanovic who was able to hold off Kravjica 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 securing the victory for Nova.
The loss puts the Eagles at 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the SSC, while the Sharks, improved their conference record to 4-4 and 6-12 overall. Embry-Riddle returns to action on Monday at 3:30 p.m. against Azusa Pacific at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
