CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After updated results came through, the Embry-Riddle men's cross country team found itself second overall at the Queen City Invitational on Friday evening, finishing behind only NCAA I Liberty and ahead of NCAA II No. 7 and host Queens (N.C.). The Eagles totaled 115 points, edging Queens (118), while also beating 27 other collegiate teams. It marks the highest-ranked NCAA II team beat by the Eagles since ERAU joined the NCAA.
For the third straight race, freshman
Ryan Szklany was the first Eagle finisher, going for a 24:53 to pace the Blue and Gold. Szklany finished ninth overall, and close behind was
Calahan Warren in 13th with a time of 25:04, the best 8K time of his collegiate career.
Shaun Bullock shattered his previous career-best with a 25:31 to place 23rd overall, nearly 45 seconds faster than his former fastest time.
Lelei Too (26:02 - 43rd) and
Paul McKenna (26:02 - 43rd) rounded out the Eagle scorers, with
Paris Williams (26:10 - 48th) and
Brian Cheluget (26:37 - 64th) acting as displacers and running their second-fastest career times.
Adam Lawrence (26:47 - 70th),
Garrett Noltemeyer (26:52 - 71st) finished back-to-back for the Eagles, with Noletemeyer setting his personal best by more than two and a half minutes.
Justin Nauman (27:31 - 95th) and
Bryce Cole (27:56 - 119th) both ran career-best times, and
John Dennehy (28:28 - 139th),
Drew Hart (29:01 - 161st) and
Bryce Walker (30:03 - 184th) also competed for the Blue and Gold as Walker posted the fastest time in his career.
The Eagles will have two weeks to prepare for the FSU Invitational on Friday, Oct. 12 in Tallahassee.
