@ERAUWSoccer Tripped Up at Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team suffered a loss in its regular season finale, falling to Saint Leo 1-0 on the road on Wednesday. The Eagles (8-5-2) sit in fourth place in the Sunshine State Conference standings at 6-3-1 and have secured a spot in the 2019 Sunshine State Conference tournament, which begins on Nov. 11.

The Eagles controlled much of the run of play in the opening minutes of the contest, but about midway through the first half, the momentum began to shift in the Lions' favor. At the 32:08 mark, the Lions had a goal disallowed due to a player being offside, but the home team continued to press the Eagles' back line and in the 36th minute, their efforts paid off as Nina Mueller scored to put SLU up 1-0.

Elizabeth Allen had a good look at the goal in the 41st minute, but her attempt was stopped by Saint Leo goalkeeper Julia Ortiz and the Lions took the one-goal lead into the halftime break.

The second 45 minutes of action saw the Blue and Gold dominate possession. However, the Eagles were not able to execute in the final third, managing just three shots in the half, none of which were on frame.

For the game, Embry-Riddle had an 8-6 edge in shots and a 2-1 edge in shots on goal, while both sides had four corner kicks apiece. Ortiz saved both of the shots on frame she faced as the Lions closed out their season at 7-9-1 overall and 4-6 in league play.

"Needless to say, we are extremely disappointed in tonight," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon said following the match. "Both performance and result fell short of our standards. No excuses- it has to be better. St Leo scored a good goal and then made it difficult for us to connect in the final third. We need this break right now to reset a bit, get our legs back, heal up, and finish this season with a bit more resolve and grit."

Regular season play in the SSC concludes on Friday after which seeding and pairings for the conference tournament will be determined.
