Late Comeback Falls Short as @ERAUMLax Suffers First Defeat of Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team tallied six goals in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles dropped a 15-10 decision to Young Harris on Sunday. The Mountain Lions, who are receiving votes in the preseason coaches' poll, improved to 3-0 on the year, while ERAU dropped to 2-1 on the season.

Coleman Jacobs, Kyle Dalrymple, and Mark Urso each tallied a pair of gaols, while Dalrymple and Urso both added an assist to lead the way with three points apiece. Jacob Schripsema notched a goal and an assist while Gavin Madden, Mitchell Cody, and Michael Forte all added a goal each. Lucas Fraser made eight saves in goal for the Eagles.

The Blue and Gold got off to a slow start, falling behind 5-0 before Madden scored the first goal for Embry-Riddle, a man-up score with 3:53 left in the first quarter. The score remained 5-1 at the end of a quarter, and the Eagles couldn't find much more offense in the second period as YHC went into the break with a 9-3 advantage.

The Mountain Lions scored the first two goals of the second half, extending the lead to 11-3 before Jacobs scored his first goal. That would prove to be the only ERAU goal of the quarter, with Young Harris holding a 12-4 lead going into the final quarter.

Jacobs notched his second goal in the first minute of the fourth, which would foreshadow a bit of a resurgence for the Eagle offense. Dalrymple scored just over a minute later to make it 12-6, but the Mountain Lions answered back with two goals in quick succession to make it 14-6. Cody got one back at the 9:07 mark, and Urso took a faceoff win and went straight to the cage to score his first just 10 seconds later, making it a 14-8 game and forcing a YHC timeout. The Eagle offense went cold for the next four minutes and the Mountain Lions scored once in that span, increasing the margin to 15-8. Schripsema found the back of the net with 4:32 to play and Urso again won a faceoff and scored just 11 seconds later, trimming the deficit to 15-10. That was as close as the Eagles would get, with neither side able to add any more goals over the final four minutes of action.

The Eagles return to the ERAU Lacrosse Field on Thursday, Feb. 14 when they host Montevallo at 7 p.m.
