@ERAUMLax Opens 2019 with 13-7 Win Over Keiser

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Four goals from freshman Coleman Jacobs led the Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over NAIA No. 7 Keiser in the season opener for both sides on Sunday afternoon. Lucas Fraser was strong in goal for the Eagles as well, stopping 10 of the 16 shots he faced as he picked up a win in his first collegiate game.

Jacobs added an assist for a game-high five points while Jared Kane tallied two goals and two assists. Mitchell Cody added a pair of goals as well for the Blue and Gold.

It was Keiser who got on the board first with a goal just 56 seconds into the contest, but Cody answered back at 9:33 mark with his first collegiate goal, tying the game at 1-1. Joey Santella put the Eagles ahead with a goal with just under three minutes remaining in the first quarter.

After the Seahawks quickly tied things at 2-2 in the first minute of the second quarter, the Blue and Gold got into a rhythm offensively, converting three goals in just over three minutes to pull ahead, 5-2. Keiser pulled within two with a man-up goal with 1:59 to play, but Jacobs put the Eagles back up three with a goal in the final minute, giving Embry-Riddle a 6-3 halftime lead.

ERAU pulled away in the third quarter, tallying four goals while not allowing KU to put one in until the final 18 seconds of the period. Four different Eagles scored in the quarter, capped by a man-up goal from Cody with 2:49 left.

Less than two minutes into the fourth quarter, Michael Forte made it 11-4 with a goal off of a beautiful feed from Jacobs. The Seahawks grabbed the next two goals, but Jacobs netted his third of the game following a Spencer Wims timeout, which stopped the momentum. Jacobs added one more, his fourth of the game, with 1:57 left in the contest, sealing the 13-6 win for the Eagles.

Embry-Riddle returns to action next weekend as they host a four-team tournament at the Embry-Riddle Lacrosse Field. The Eagles will take on Notre Dame de Namur on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m., following a 4 p.m. contest between Young Harris and Palm Beach Atlantic.
