MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -
Tylin Lockett-Fuller's three-point attempt with 0.4 seconds remaining would have won the game for the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team, but it was too strong as the host Barry Bucs survived, 70-68 on Wednesday night. The Eagles (11-14, 4-10 SSC) struggled shooting the ball in the second half, managing just 30 percent (10-for-33) from the floor, but still had a chance to their first-ever road win over the Bucs (13-8, 8-6 SSC).
ERAU put four players in double-figures, led by
Nashad Mackey's 10th double-double of the 2018-19 season of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Lockett-Fuller, who led the contest with four triples, finished with 14 points, while
Alston Jones went for 13 points and
Luka Majstorovic had 11 points and four boards.
Embry-Riddle had a 39-34 lead at the half, but the Bucs came out of the break on fire, going on a 9-0 run to take a 43-39 lead before a trey from Lockett-Fuller stopped the bleeding.
Barry led for most of the next 10 minutes, but a Jones fastbreak layup at the 9:43 mark tied the game at 51-51, and after a Barry three, Majstorovic knotted things up with a jumper from long range.
From the 10-minute mark of the second half to the 4-minute mark, the game featured five ties, the final one coming after Tylan Birts made a jumper in the paint to make it 61-61 after a pair of Mackey free throws on the other end.
Free throws were all the Eagles could get to drop for the majority of the final 10 minutes as ERAU went 0-for-8 at one point, getting down by five at 68-63 with 1:29 to go.
A driving floater from Jones cut the deficit to three with 28 seconds left, and after a pair of Barry free thros Lockett-Fuller buried his fourth three of the night with 14 seconds on the clock. After a timeout, Barry turned the ball over on its ensuing possession and the Eagles had Lockett-Fuller's three to win it right before the horn sounded.
ERAU led by as many as six early on in the first half, but Barry came back to go up by as many as eight. However, trailing 30-22 with five minutes to play in the first, the Blue and Gold ended the half on a 17-4 run, capped by a Mackey and-one to take their five-point lead into the break.
Embry-Riddle returns to the ICI Center to host Florida Southern on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.
