DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –
Ryan Manning scored Embry-Riddle's first-ever overtime goal to give ERAU a 7-6 win over Georgian Court on Tuesday. The Eagles improve to 5-2 with the win while the Lions drop to 1-4.
Jared Kane scored a pair of goals for the Eagles while
Kyle Dalrymple had a game-high three points with a goal and two assists and
Charles Pollock added a goal and an assist.
Mark Urso was 12-of-16 in faceoffs and had a game-high 10 ground balls, while
Lucas Fraser made 10 saves in earning his fifth victory of the year.
Goals were at a premium all night long, with GCU scoring the only goal of the first quarter to lead 1-0. The Eagles finally got on the board when Dalrymple scored almost 10 minutes into the second quarter. Kane put the Blue and Gold ahead just over a minute later, and the 2-1 score would hold through the end of the half.
The third quarter was the only period that saw both teams score, with ERAU exploding for four goals in the frame while allowing two Lion scores. GCU scored first but
Coleman Jacobs answered back quickly and Pollock scored less than two minutes after that to make it 4-2 Eagles.
Gavin Madden scored with 5:49 left in the quarter and Kane tallied his second with 4:02 remaining, pushing the lead to 6-2. The Lions got one back with just over three minutes to play which would prove to be the final goal of the quarter.
In the fourth, neither side scored for the first 11 minutes, until GCU got a goal at the 3:51 mark. With two minutes on the clock, the Lions scored again, cutting the deficit to a single goal. Georgian Court got the ball back shortly after the ensuing faceoff and was able to net the tying goal with just 15 seconds left in regulation.
Playing in its first-ever overtime game, ERAU won the faceoff to begin overtime and took two shots in the first 70 seconds, but couldn't get the game-winner. After the Eagles turned it over, Pollock forced a turnover on the ensuing clear attempt, giving Embry-Riddle possession once again. With Embry-Riddle on a clear attempt, Georgian Court decided to execute a 10-man ride in an effort to force a turnover. Manning quickly realized the situation and saw that the Lion goalkeeper had vacated the net as a result, and launched a shot from over 60 yards away that one-hopped into the open cage for the game-winning goal.
The Eagles will be right back at it tomorrow evening when they host Emmanuel in another non-conference contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
