LAKELAND, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team suffered a 25-16 defeat at Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon, dropping the Eagles' record to 8-8 on the season and 0-6 in conference play. The Mocs improve to 8-7 overall, 3-3 in SSC games.
Jacob Schripsema led the Eagles with four goals while
Jared Kane and
Mitchell Cody both added three goals and an assist.
Coleman Jacobs had a pair of goals to go along with three assists and
Michael Forte netted two goals as well as picking up a game-high nine ground balls.
Lucas Fraser made 12 saves and
Mark Urso was 20-of-40 in faceoffs for the Blue and Gold.
Both teams scored early and often, with FSC jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first 2:18 of the game, only to see ERAU answer back quickly with goals from Forte and Cody to make it a 3-2 contest just over four minutes into the game. The Mocs then rattled off five straight goals to go up 8-2 with 5:51 left in the quarter before Cody got his second goal at the 4:14 mark. Just over a minute later it was 11-3 FSC, but the Eagles got two late goals from Schripsema and Kane to make it 11-5 after the first 15 minutes.
Kyle Dalrymple netted a goal just 10 seconds into the second quarter, after which the scoring slowed down considerably, with no goals scored for more than eight minutes of play. The Blue and Gold tallied three straight goals in a span of 1:35 to get within three (12-9) with 3:29 to play in the half. Florida Southern scored the next two goals before Schripsema scored in the final minute of the half, moving the score to 14-10 at the break.
The Mocs scored four straight to open the third quarter and extended their lead to 22-14 by the end of the period, with ERAU goals coming from Kane,
Gavriel Del Villar, Jacobs, and Schripsema in the frame.
Schripsema got his fourth of the game just 19 seconds into the fourth, but the Eagles were only able to muster one more score in the game, which came from Jacobs, as Florida Southern earned the 25-16 win.
The Eagles will close out the 2019 season on Saturday, April 20, when they host No. 20 Rollins at 8 p.m.
