DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle baseball team got the opportunity to step out of regular season play on Tuesday night as they took on the Class-A Daytona Tortugas at Historic Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The Tortugas scored a run in each of the first four frames and went on to a 5-0 victory in the seven-inning contest.

The Eagles went quietly in the first inning, and the Tortugas got lucky in their half of play when a batted ball skipped off first base for a leadoff double against Dominic Jeancola. Jeancola would limit the damage, but the Tortugas would take a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly.

Luis Olivier collected the first of his two hits in the second inning and Zach Howard managed to steal a base for the Eagles, but ERAU couldn't muster a score and Daytona added to its lead with a run in the home second. Troy Naab struck out back-to-back batters to end the second inning, stranding a pair of runners.

Garrett Capman collected the Eagles' only extra-base hit of the night with a double in the right-center gap in the third, and Kyle Guttveg was able to later reach thanks to a ball lost in the sun by the first baseman, but a fielder's choice and subsequent ground out ended the Eagle threat.

Daytona scored its third run in the third inning with the help of two ERAU errors, but Kyle Miller was able to limit it to the one tally.

Olivier got his second hit of the game in the fourth, but was cut down on an inning-ending double play and a leadoff triple for the Tortugas came in to score against David Romanowski as Daytona went up 4-0 after four.

J.C. Carrell pitched a perfect fifth inning before the Tortugas got their final run in the bottom of the sixth for the 5-0 final.

The Eagles will return to Sunshine State Conference action this Friday with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Tampa.
