DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 2019 season will continue for the Embry-Riddle baseball team as the Eagles earned an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA II National Tournament on Sunday night. In just their second season of NCAA II eligibility, the Blue and Gold will be the No. 7 seed in the NCAA South Region and will travel to Cleveland, Mississippi for Regional play, May 16-18.
For Embry-Riddle, it's the 20th appearance in a national tournament, but the first in the NCAA II era since the Eagles became full members prior to the 2018 season. The Eagles were picked to finish last by the Sunshine State Conference coaches, played more games (29) against regionally-ranked opponents than all but one team in the entirety of NCAA II baseball, and took on the fifth-toughest schedule in the country.
It will be the first postseason games for the Blue and Gold since 2015 when they finished in the semifinals of the NAIA World Series. The Eagles hold a 130-65 (.667) all-time record in the postseason.
The Eagles finished the 2019 regular season at 29-20 and 18-12 in Sunshine State Conference play. Embry-Riddle claimed the final of five South Region at-large bids and will meet up with No. 2 seed and Region host Delta State (39-12) on Thursday. Third-seeded Eckerd (30-17) and Valdosta State (30-21) will also trek to Harvey Stadium at Ferris Field.
The winner of the double-elimination tournament will advance to the South Super Regional to play the winner of the other South Region pod featuring No. 1 Tampa (36-14), No. 4 West Florida (36-16), No. 5 Nova Southeastern (32-15) and No. 8 Spring Hill (29-20). The South Super Regional will be a best-of-three tournament held at the higher seed and set for May 24-25.Â
The eight winners of the Super Regionals across the country will advance to the 2019 NCAA II World Series in Cary, North Carolina, June 1-8.
