CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team faced one of the top teams in the country on Saturday, falling at fifth-ranked Queens by a score of 18-7. The loss dropped the Eagles' record to 1-1, while the Royals moved to 2-0.
McKenzie Jackson and
Ellie Dailey each tallied a pair of goals while
Mya Watson registered a goal and an assist. Jackson also led all players with nine draw controls
Zariah Durham contributed a game-high three ground balls and also scored a goal.
Elizabeth Ninesling chipped in with an assist and led all players with three caused turnovers.
Mary Catherine Kreider (1-1) made a season-high 11 saves in a losing effort.
The Royals got off to a strong start, scoring the first six goals of the game before Jackson got ERAU on the board at the 16:01 mark. Queens then scored five straight to build an 11-1 lead before Dailey scored the final goal of the half to make it 11-2.
Embry-Riddle chipped away at the lead with goals from Durham and Jackson in the first five minutes of the second half to cut the deficit to 11-4. Queens never let the lead drop below seven, despite an Eagle offense that generated more second-half shots and shots on goal.
Paige Jones and Watson scored back-to-back goals to make it 14-7, but the Royals tallied the game's final four scores to pull away for an 18-7 win.
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 26, when they travel to Coker for a 3 p.m. contest.
