Jacobs Leads @ERAUMLax to 16-10 Victory at Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Led by a record-setting day from Coleman Jacobs, the Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2020 season on Sunday, downing NAIA No. 7 Keiser by a score of 16-10. Jacobs set the program record for points in a game and tied the single-game records for goals and shots as the Eagles evened their record at 1-1; the Seahawks considered the game an exhibition and have yet to compete in a countable contest this season.

Jacobs finished the day with five goals, tying Connor Bullock's record set on March 12, 2019. He also tallied three assists for a total of eight points, breaking Mitchell Cody's record of seven set on Feb. 23, 2019. Jacobs' 12 shots tied Kyle Dalrymple's program mark set on Feb. 18, 2018.

Jacob Schripsema tied a career-high with four points (three goals, one assist) while Marcus Needham (two goals, two assists) and Lars Hoeg (two goals, one assist) tallied their first points at ERAU. Bullock and Gage Poindexter both notched a pair of goals and Jared Kane registered a pair of assists. Charlie Wilson (1-1) earned the win in goal, making seven saves on 17 shots.

The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, with Hoeg opening the scoring just over two minutes into the contest. Just 64 seconds later, Jacobs netted his first goal to double the Eagle lead. After Keiser got on the board 11 seconds after Jacobs' goal, Bullock scored to make it 3-1 ERAU after 4:01 of play. Jacobs and Bullock scored the next two goals to build the lead to 5-1 with 4:32 left in the quarter before the Seahawks tallied two goals late in the quarter to make it a 5-3 game.

Just as he did in the first quarter, Hoeg scored the first goal of the second quarter, needing just 26 seconds to score his second of the game. Less than 90 seconds later, Needham netted his first career goal to push the advantage to 7-3. Poindexter scored the next two goals, followed by Scripsema's first of the day, which increased the margin to 10-3. After KU scored the next two goals, Jacobs added his third of the game to make it an 11-5 score at the half.

Goals came at a decreased frequency in the second half, with Schripsema and Jacobs getting ERAU's only tallies of the third quarter. Keiser scored three times in the period, trimming the deficit to 13-8 heading to the final 15 minutes.

The Seahawks got the first score of the fourth, trimming the lead to 13-9. Jacobs answered with his record-tying fifth goal and seventh point, and a couple minutes later he assisted on Schripsema's third goal of the game to earn his record-setting eighth point of the game. KU scored for the final time just before the halfway point of the fourth and Needham put the exclamation point on the victory with the Eagles' 16th and final goal of the game.

The Blue and Gold will travel to Montevallo to take on the Falcons next Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m.
