Men’s Tennis Rolls to 7-0 Win Over Wayne State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 24th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its fourth shutout of the season on Thursday, blanking Wayne State (8-2) 7-0 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 6-1 on the year.

The day's play began with a win for the Eagles' No. 2 doubles team of Alexis Guedy and Lucas Bos as the duo extended its unbeaten streak to five matches with a 6-2 win over Luke Laws and Nicklas Kracz. After falling behind by a break earlier in their contest on court one, Juan Ortiz Couder and Andres Donayre rallied to top Dom Spicer and David Solar 6-4 to assure the Eagles of the doubles point.

The match at No. 3 doubles lasted 51 minutes and saw the Eagles' pair of Andrej Omeragic and Fernando Alonso outlast Max Rinks and Pierre Rennaudie 7-6 (7-4) in a tiebreaker.

Singles play saw Bos make quick work of Laws, downing the Warriors' No. 5 player 6-0, 6-2 to increase the Eagle advantage to 2-0. Donayre followed shortly after with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rink on court two to pull the Eagles within one point of claiming a team victory.

The clinching point came from Tim Loerwink on court six. Loerwink's match got off to a later start than the rest as both players required a full warm-up after sitting out doubles. The junior made quick work of his opponent, dispatching Ryan Okonski 6-1, 6-1 to give the Eagles their sixth win of the season.

The match at No. 1 singles saw Ortiz Couder register another come-from-behind win. The senior trailed Renaudie in both sets but rallied twice to win 6-4, 6-4. Next off the court was Alonso who picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Solar on court five.

Guedy had a quick 6-2 win in his first set against Spicer, but the Warriors' third-flight player gave the ERAU junior a fight in the second. Guedy was eventually able to pull out a 7-5 win in his second set to complete the Eagles' sweep of Wayne State.

The Eagles will be back at the Crotty Tennis Complex at 11 a.m. on Sunday to host Bentley.
