Embry-Riddle's first-ever individual national title came during the 2008 indoor track & field season, when Beth McCubbin took home the 1000m title at the NAIA Indoor National Championships.

McCubbin, in her junior season, won her semifinal heat in 2:59.01, advancing to the finals as the No. 2 seed. In the finals, McCubbin blew away the field, finishing over two seconds ahead of the runner-up with a time of 2:54.29. Her first-place finish also earned her All-American honors for the third consecutive year in the indoor 1000m; she also added another All-American award at the 2008 indoor championships for helping the 4x800m relay team to a fifth-place finish in 9:24.14.

McCubbin's first-place finish in the 1000m netted eight points for the Eagles, while the team's fifth-place result in the 4x800m relay earned four points, accounting for a majority of ERAU's team total of 18 points at the 2008 NAIA Indoor National Championships, where the Blue and Gold finished 13th in the nation.
