SEATTLE, Washington - The Embry-Riddle men's cross country team put forth its best-ever performance at the NCAA II National Championship on Friday, finishing 28th overall at Chambers Creek Regional Park, highlighted by
Paul Kraemer's 29th-place finish in a school record time of 30:23.3, earning NCAA II All-America honors, the first in program history.
The Eagles were running in their third NCAA II National Championship, having placed 29th in both previous trips. ERAU totaled 2:39:40.7 with a spread of 2:37.2. Embry-Riddle's 658 total points were also the lowest total at the NCAA II meet for the Blue and Gold.
Kraemer broke his own 10K school record that he set just two weeks ago, running 37 seconds faster en route to his 29th-place finish. It was the highest an Eagle had finished at a national championship since 2011 (Evans Kirwa - 6th overall). The Eagle sophomore ran in the top-50 the entire race, but made his move over the final half of the 10K event, moving from 39th at the mid-way point to 35th and then 32nd with 1 kilometer left. Kraemer moved past three opposing runners over the last 1,000m, finishing just 0.3 seconds faster than the 30th-place finisher.
Brendon Shea ran a 31:48.9 to finish 145th overall, while freshman
Andrew Stowe placed 138th in 32:02.4 to cap a phenomenal freshman season.
Ryan Szklany, who, like Kraemer, was running his final collegiate cross country race, posted a time of 32:25.6, moving up 50 spots over the course of the race to finish 171st.
Tanner Rosolino rounded out the Embry-Riddle scorers in 225th with a time of 33:00.5, and
Tayan Benson (235th - 33:27.4) and
Tristan McWilliam (236th - 33:29.1) both wrapped up their freshman campaigns for the Blue and Gold.
