DADE CITY, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's golf team came away with a 10th-place result at the Saint Leo Invitational. The Eagles shot a 320 on Tuesday to finish with 946 strokes after scores of 309 and 317 on Monday. It was a stacked field featuring six programs ranked in the most recent poll (No. 2 Lynn, No. 3 Nova Southeastern, No. 7 Anderson, No. 9 Tampa, No. 15 Barry, and No. 22 Florida Southern) and two receiving votes (Saint Leo and Eckerd). Also included was the NAIA's fifth-ranked team in SCAD Savannah. Play was held at the par-72, 6,112-yard course at the Lake Jovita Country Club.
"Lake Jovita showed its teeth today," said head coach Maria Lopez. "I was excited for the PRs and comebacks. There's lots to take away from this event to build for a strong end to the fall."
Millie Lawson (75-79-78) ended the tournament as the top Eagle with a score of 232. The graduate student found success on par 5s, averaging 4.92 strokes on such holes.
Marybeth McGuire (77-76-82) had a career-best performance this week, firing a 235 for the lowest 54-hole score in her ERAU tenure. The senior led the squad in birdies with eight over the course of three rounds, which was also tied for 12th in the 71-player field.
Loa Johannsson (80-77-78) matched her teammate McGuire with a 235. She also excelled on par-5 holes, needing just 4.92 strokes to complete each one on average.
Mackenzie McCormack (77-85-83=245) locked in on par 3s, securing two birdies and two pars on those four holes in round three.
Jasmine Yang (82-89-82=253) also participated for the Eagles.
Competing as an individual, Stevie Albright (74-81-82=237) used a career-low 74 in round one to carry her through the rest of the tournament. Fellow individual competitor Grayson Kindig (84-85-90=259) was one stroke off her personal best three-round score.
Nova Southeastern (291-274-298=863) finished one under par to win the tournament. Anderson (300-288-294=882) placed second ahead of Barry (298-298-295=891) with Saint Leo (292-303-309=904), Florida Southern (296-302-306=904), and Lynn (301-298-305=904) all tied for fourth.
The Sharks' Ellen Andersson (71-68-72=211) was the top individual by five strokes.
The Eagles' fall schedule concludes with the Flagler Fall Slam in St. Augustine, Florida from Oct. 23-24.
