DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team dropped a tight match to Washington University St. Louis on Tuesday, falling to the Bears 4-3 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 7-7 overall while the Bears, ranked second in NCAA III, improved to 7-1.
The Bears took an early 1-0 lead after winning 6-2 and 6-3 at the first and second doubles positions.
Fifth-ranked Abhi Ramireddy extended the WashU lead to two when he held off
Michele Iftimie 6-4, 6-3 on court one.
The Eagles evened the team score when
Fernando Alonso downed Jared Phillips 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and
Pol Fontdegloria, in his first dual match of the season, edged James Shaheen 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 at No. 6.
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo also earned a point for the Eagles with his 7-6 (3), 6-2 defeat of Gaurav Singh on court three, but the Bears won the two remaining matches to seal the win.
The Eagles are back on the courts at 10 a.m. on Wednesday to host Southern New Hampshire at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
