Schenk Heads to Southern Methodist University

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Director of Athletics John Phillips announced the resignation of Dan Schenk as the head coach of the Embry-Riddle rowing program. Schenk has accepted an offer to become the assistant coach at NCAA I Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

"We are truly sorry to lose Dan, as he did a fantastic job leading our rowing programs over the last two years," Phillips said. "We have experienced tremendous success both in the classroom and on the water and he has helped lay the foundation for incredible success in the future."

"It has been an absolute pleasure being a part of this university and this athletic department," Schenk said. "The growth I've seen in my few years has been tremendous, and I have no doubt that it will only continue. It's sad to be leaving when I see Embry-Riddle's best days ahead, but you can guarantee that I'll be watching and cheering on every program for the years to come."

The second head coach in the program's six-year history, Schenk guided the Embry-Riddle women's program to back-to-back Sunshine State Conference championships. He led ERAU Women's Rowing to its highest national ranking (2nd) in 2021-22 and in his three seasons with the program – one as an assistant and two as head coach – the Eagles made three consecutive national championship appearances, placing third overall in 2021-22 and fifth this past spring.

Both the men's and women's teams won overall team titles at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship, with the men claiming back-to-back titles in the Fours at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships.

"While this is a bittersweet day for ERAU Rowing, I am excited for Dan and his family," Phillips said. "The opportunity to be part of a top-10 Division I rowing program at SMU is a wonderful opportunity for him, and also for Neisha and Benjamin."

A national search for the program's next head coach will begin immediately.
