Men’s Rowing Competes at NIRC

Results
WORCESTER, Mass. - Embry-Riddle Men's Rowing took a trip up north for the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Sunday with the hopes of qualifying for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship. The Eagles were battling with Hobart, Marist and MIT for one available berth in the championship regatta, but finishes of 12th overall in both the varsity eight and second varsity eight were not enough to qualify as Embry-Riddle ended the day in 12th on the leaderboard with 55 points.

The field featured a plethora of ranked Division III teams in the latest IRCA Coaches Poll with a couple of Division I programs as well. 

In the D1/D2 rankings, the Eagles are receiving votes in the 2V8 while Hobart is ranked 24th in varsity eight and No. 23 in the 2V8.

In regards to the D3 varsity eight rankings, the ranked opposition included No. 1 Trinity, No. 2 Wesleyan, No. 3 Bates, No. 4 Tufts, No. 5 Williams, No. T-6 Coast Guard, No. 8 Colby, No. 9 WPI, No. 11 Hamilton,  and No. 12 Skidmore.

Additionally, the ranked programs in the D3 2V8 included No. 1 Trinity, No. 2 Wesleyan, No. 3 Tufts, No. 4 Williams, No. 6 Bates, No. 7 Colby, No. 8 Coast Guard, and No. 9 WPI.

Heats
  • 2V8+ | The racing got going with ERAU's 2V8 taking fourth in its heat to advance to the petite final later in the day. The Eagles posted a time of 6:13.209 to beat Skidmore (6:36.822). 
  • V8+ | It was the same result for the V8 as the Eagles came fourth in their heat after racing down the course in 5:58.785. Embry-Riddle finished ahead of D3 No. 12 Skidmore and D1 Iona to earn a spot in the petite final.
Finals
  • 2V8+ | ERAU improved three seconds on its time from the heats (6:10.801) and challenged D3 No. 8 Coast Guard at the line for the fifth spot, but the Bears edged the Eagles by less than a tenth of a second as Embry-Riddle placed sixth in the final and 12th overall to pick up 35 team points.
  • V8+ | Varsity eight once again mimicked the 2V8, this time with a sixth-place showing in the petite final and 12th overall, stopping the clock at 6:05.154 for 20 points toward the team's total.

UP NEXT
The Eagles will wait and see if they receive an at-large bid to the IRA National Championship, which will be announced on May 20.
