Women’s Golf Sits Mid Pack After Day One of St. Simons Intercollegiate

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Fla. - Competing in Embry-Riddle women's golf's first out-of-state tournament since 2014, the Eagles are just outside the top five after the first day of the St. Simons Intercollegiate. ERAU sits in seventh with 634 strokes after two rounds. Some notable opponents in the 14-team field are No. 4 Flagler, RV Lincoln Memorial, and RV Tusculum. Play is being held at the par-72, 5,801-yard King and Prince Golf Club. 

Loa Johannsson (152) hovered around the top 10 all day, using a 75 in round one to tie for eighth followed by a 77 in round two. Johannsson posted a team-high five birdies. 

Alexandra Drum (79-80=159) capped off her first round with a birdie on the 18th hole and carried that momentum into the second round by birdying two of her first five holes.

Eden Tsouklaris (82-77=159) had solid starts to both rounds on Monday. On both occasions, she birdied the opening par-5, 416-yard hole. The Flagler Beach, Florida native shot two under through six holes in round one and then went two under over the first seven holes in round two. Tsouklaris ended the day tied for the ninth-best average on par-5s (5.0) in the 76-player field. 

Savannah Hawthorne's (82-82) two birdies on the day came on holes No. 1 and No. 2. She accumulated 164 strokes over 36 holes. 

 In her first tournament of the season, Stevie Albright (83-83) shot a 166 through two rounds.

Competing as an individual, Jasmine Yang (82-75=157) pushed herself all the way into the top five halfway through round one after recording eight pars and a birdie on her front nine. She then tallied a trio of birdies in a four-hole span in round two to beat her first-round total by seven strokes. Yang recorded a team-best 22 pars.

Flagler (571) holds a massive 37-stroke lead over Lincoln Memorial (608) as four Saints are in the top six positions. Union (614) occupies third.

Only two players are under par, both of which represent Flagler. Stella Jelinek (137) leads her teammate Henriette Stranda (139) by two shots. 

The third and final round gets underway at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
