LAKELAND, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's golf team jumped one spot during the final round of the Lady Moc Classic to finish 13th with 941 (316-313-312) strokes. It was another stacked field including five top-10 teams (No. 1 Nova Southeastern, No. 2 Rollins, No. 7 Anderson, No. 8 Flagler, and No. 10 Lynn) and eleven ranked inside the top 30 (No. 13 Saint Leo, No. 20 Limestone, No. 22 North Georgia, No. 23 Tampa, No. 27 Florida Southern, and No. 29 Eckerd). All programs completed three rounds at the par-72, 6,105-yard course at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club.
"The conditions were super tough," said Head Coach
Maria Lopez. "We felt like we left some shots out there, but we fought for every single one and showed some grit. I'm super proud of our resilience and determination."
Loa Johannsson (78-79-77=234) saved the best for last with a 77 on day two, the lowest round by an Eagle during the tournament. Her four birdies during the competition were also tied for the most on the team. The sophomore found streaks of success, recording pars on her first four holes of the third round and then eight straight pars on holes No. 8-15.
Mackenzie McCormack (78-78-78=234) matched Johannsson's score in her first tournament of the spring followed by Millie Lawson's 237 (80-78-79).
Reni Jancsik (83-78-78=239) mimicked yesterday's effort in the second round with another 78 in Tuesday's final round.
Jasmine Yang finished with the most holes parred on the team with 34 over 54 holes. The junior fired an 80 in all three rounds to end with a 240 stroke total.
Competing as an individual, Stevie Albright (82-86-80=248) accumulated four birdies in a ten-hole span during her final round to tie Johannsson for the most by a member of the Blue and Gold during the tournament. The San Antonio, Texas native's 80 on Tuesday matched her best round during the current spring season.
Nova Southeastern (291-297-294=882) held on to its day-one lead to win by four strokes over Anderson (301-297-288=886) with Flagler (294-300-293=887) placing third.
Tampa's Ana Maria Jimenez Rios (74-69-71=214) won the individual title.
It's a lengthy break for Embry-Riddle as the Eagles are off for the next three weeks until they compete in the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational from March 11-12 in Orlando.
