DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 18th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team bounced back after surrendering the doubles point to sweep all six singles matches on the way to a 6-1 win over Michigan Tech, Monday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The win improved the Eagles' record to 3-1 on the year, while the Huskies fall to 1-6 with the loss.
Fernando Alonso and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo grabbed the first doubles victory with a 6-1 defeat of Nikolai Prosjanykov and Vitor Joardo at No. 3. The Huskies then won at the top two spots, including a tiebreaker at No. 2, to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Alonso pulled the Eagles level at 1-1 with his 6-2, 6-2 win over Leon Sell at the third position.
Michele Iftimie followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Adam Fenjiro on court four and Josh Nuyts made it 3-1 Embry-Riddle with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Jordao at No. 2.
The clincher came on court five where Diaz Rodrigo made quick work of Prosjanykov 6-2, 6-0.
At the top spot,
Safar Rasulov pulled out a hard-fought win in a first set tiebreaker (7-6 (4)) before dispatching Chia-Chieh Lin 6-1 in the second, and
Luke Paschal wrapped up the singles sweep by downing Coates 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Eagles are back in action at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning when they host Tiffin at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
