Women’s Golf Completes Day One of Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's golf team sits in ninth with 663 (328-335) strokes after day one of the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins at the Orange Tree Golf Club on Monday. The field of 10 programs features four highly-ranked teams inside the top 15 including No. 2 Nova Southeastern, No. 5 Rollins, No. 12 Barry, and No. 15 Lee. The course proved tough to tame as there were no under-par rounds on the day. 

Jasmine Yang (77-87=164) led the way for the Blue and Gold with a team-best 77 in round one thanks to 12 pars, which ranked tied for the fifth-most in the field. It was her second-best opening round of the season and had the junior up into the top 10 in a tie for seventh.

Loa Johannsson (81-84=165) notched a trio of birdies over 36 holes of play.

Savannah Hawthorne (168) followed up her first round score of 88 with an 80 in the second round, which was the lowest on the team and just one stroke off of tying her single-round season low. She totaled four birdies on Monday, the most by a member of the Blue and Gold and tied for the ninth most by any competitor.

Millie Lawson was out to a strong start in round one. The Metropolis, Illinois product recorded a team-best three birdies, which was also tied for the sixth-most in the 59-player field, to end with an 82. An 87 in round two gave Lawson 169 strokes at the end of day one. 

Mackenzie McCormack (89-84=173) saw a five-stroke improvement between her first and second rounds. 

Eden Tsouklaris (83-82=165) and Stevie Albright (82-83=165) both competed as individuals. Tsouklaris was consistent in her opening 18 holes, registering 11 pars, tied for the ninth most in the tournament during that round.

Barry (300-320=620) and Nova Southeastern (316-304=620) are tied for the lead with Rollins (318-310=628) and Eckerd (317-311=628) in a battle for third.

Barry's Nina Klug (72-74=146) leads all individuals. 

The third and final round gets underway at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
