LARGO, Fla. - Sunday saw the start of the Sunshine State Conference Championship, and the Eagles shot 319 in round one to sit in eighth, two strokes ahead of 10th-ranked Barry. Play is being held at the par-72, 6,077-yard course at the Bayou Club. Included in the 10-team field are seven programs ranked inside the top-25 of the Clippd rankings, such as No. 4 Nova Southeastern, No. 7 Rollins, No. 10 Barry, No. 11 Lynn, No. 14 Saint Leo, No. 23 Florida Southern, and No. 25 Tampa.

Reni Jancsik picked the perfect time to fire her lowest opening-round of the year, finishing 18 holes in 78 shots to tie for 20th on the individual leaderboard. The Ponte Vedra, Florida product tallied a team-high two birdies and tied for the third-best average on par-5s (4.75) in the 50-player field.

Millie Lawson matched Jancsik's total on Sunday to also tie for 20th on the leaderboard. Her success was partly due to her play on par-4 holes as the graduate student tied for the seventh-lowest average on such holes.

Loa Johannsson was one shot behind her teammates (79). Five of Johannsson's team-best 11 pars came during her final five holes.

Jasmine Yang recorded an 84, and Savannah Hawthorne notched an 86. She shot even on par-3s, which was tied for the fifth-best average in the round.

Florida Southern is at the top of the leaderboard with a 301. Nova Southeastern shot a 304 to hold down the second spot, and Saint Leo is in third with 307 strokes.

The Lions' Maya Cote was the only participant to shoot under par, leading the field with a 71.

Round two begins on Monday for the Eagles at 8:40 a.m. Embry-Riddle is paired with Palm Beach Atlantic.
