Women’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 5 Tampa in Regular Season Finale

TAMPA, Fla. – Freshman Eliana Enners registered her second five-point performance in Sunshine State Conference play this season, but it wasn't enough to push the Embry-Riddle (12-5) women's lacrosse team past Tampa (13-3, 6-1 SSC) on Wednesday. The 15th-ranked Eagles fell to the fifth-ranked Spartans 15-10 in both teams' regular season finale at Naimoli Stadium.

Enners tallied four goals and an assist while Samantha Reich added three, and Caitlin Gavin chipped in two goals and three caused turnovers. Kenley Zeruto made program history on Wednesday as her three assists set an Embry-Riddle single-season assist record of 50.

The Eagles hung with the Spartans through the first 15 minutes of play. Enners scored the first goal of the game and scores by Callison Foreman, Samantha Reich and Caitlin Gavin, in addition to another goal by Enners had the Eagles level with a Spartans at 5-5 heading into the second quarter.

The Eagles also scored first to open the second quarter and both teams traded goals leading to an 8-8 tie with 4:03 left in the first half. Tampa managed two unanswered goals in the closing minutes of the frame to lead 10-8 at the half.

Aubrey Fixen was solid in the nets for the Eagles in a third quarter where goals were at a premium. The junior made six stops to limit the Spartan offense to just two goals and at the end of the third, the Tampa lead was 12-9.

The offensive lull for both teams continued well into fourth quarter, but Tampa was able to come up with three goals in the final 6:32 to take the win.

Fixen went the distance for the Blue & Gold, finishing with a season high 14 saves.

With a 3-4 record in SSC play, the Eagles finished the regular season in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league standings. The Eagles will learn their opponent in the opening round of the six-team SSC tournament later this week.
