LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 5 Embry-Riddle women's tennis team (16-6, 6-3 Sunshine State Conference) saw its run in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament come to an end, as the Eagles battled but ultimately fell 4-2 to No. 4 Lynn (16-2, 8-1 SSC) in the semifinals.

The Fighting Knights struck the first blow in the doubles, as the No. 2 matchup went to Salma Djoubri and Greta Schieroni by a score of 6-2 over Kaylee Kirivong and Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo. The Eagles responded in the No. 1 spot, as the No. 13-ranked doubles pairing of Itxaso Blanco and Laura Cuesta Bret scored a 6-3 win over the No. 33-ranked duo of Deniza Marcinkevica and Jade Marie.

With all eyes on the No. 3 doubles, Embry-Riddle clinched the doubles point as Carla Cabero del Hierro and Maja Issler took down Zofia Podbiol and Kristen Younes 7-5.

Lynn fought back to start the singles. In the No. 3 slot, as No. 32nd-ranked Marcinakevica defeated Cuesta Bret 7-5, 6-2 to tie the game score up at 1-1. A lead soon followed for LU, as No. 1-ranked Djoubri won 6-3, 6-3 over No. 23 Blanco in the No. 1 matchup.

Schieroni extended this lead to 3-1 at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 defeat of the No. 47-ranked Issler. This didn't stop the Eagles though, as Cabero del Hierro brought it back to 3-2 with a 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker), 6-3 victory over Younes in the No. 4 spot. LU prevailed however, with Dolores Molina clinching victory for the Fighting Knights by defeating Alessia Tripaldelli 6-2, 3-6, 6-0.

Despite the loss, the Eagles will continue play in the SSC Tournament, going up against Nova Southeastern in the third-place match at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
