PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's golf team left The Match at Marsh with a fifth-place result after defeating Palm Beach Atlantic 3-2 on Tuesday. That came after the Eagles dropped their opening round match to Stetson 5-0 on Monday but rebounded with a 4-1 win over Bethune-Cookman. Play was held at the par-72 Marsh Landing Country Club.

"Marsh Landing is a world-class layout," Head Coach Maria Lopez said. "It's a privilege to get to compete there. Match play format is something very foreign to us. It really stretched and grew us. We had lots of factors, conditions and difficulty of the format to navigate, and they did it with grit and grace. Never in my 49 years of competitive golf has the high tide been a factor in a competition. It was really a unique learning experience."

Freshman Alexandra Drum was a force throughout the entire competition. After battling a Hatter all the way until the 18th and final hole on Monday, she won her next two matches, including the 3&2 victory over PBA's Jaycee Jenkins on Tuesday at the No. 5 pairing. Drum birdied the par-3 hole No. 2 and went up by two after the fourth hole. Jenkins got one back on the seventh, but Drum claimed two of the next three holes to take a three-hole lead. The two golfers matched each other's scores for the next six holes until PBA ran out of time as Drum captured the first point for the Eagles after the 16th hole.

Eden Tsouklaris also earned a point for the Blue and Gold in the No. 4 spot. Facing a two-hole deficit after the fourth, she locked in, starting at the par-3 eighth. From there, Tsouklaris won six of the next nine holes, including three straight from holes 14 through 16, for a 3&2 win.

The lead was cut in half when PBA's Celia Schrecker defeated Savannah Hawthorne at pairing No. 3, also by a 3&2 final. However, Loa Johannsson secured the victory in a roller-coaster of a battle at pairing No. 2. Similar to Tsouklaris, Johannsson was behind by two after the fourth hole. She the claimed three consecutive holes to lead by one. The Sailfish fought back to retake the lead three holes later, but Johannsson captured an additional four more holes, including the 17th and 18th, to go two up and earn the win for ERAU.

Lastly, Jasmine Yang lost 6&4 to PBA's Riley Hamilton in pairing No. 1 to finalize the 3-2 score.

I'm tremendously proud and grateful of their effort and grit," added Lopez. "They honored the legacy of our program. I'm excited to see what is to come next."

Stetson defeated Jacksonville 3-2 to win the competition. North Alabama won 4-1 over Nova Southeastern for third place, and Seminole State beat Bethune-Cookman 3.5-1.5 in the seventh-place match.

The Eagles get a couple of weeks off before competing in the St. Simmons Intercollegiate on Oct. 14 and 15. Lincoln Memorial is hosting the event at The King and Prince Golf Club in St. Simmons Island, Georgia.
